M.O.O.S.E.
This is the homepage for the Marines who served with the MOOSE Program at the Marine Corp’s Oak Grove Auxiliary Air Facility near Pollocksville, North Carolina.

M.O.O.S.E. - What does it mean? Moose is a Marine Corps acronym for; Maintenance Of Out Of Service Equipment. In the late 70’s early 80’s, back when the Pentagon was paying $700 for a hammer and just as much toilet seats, the Marine Corps came up with a way to keep surplus equipment from rotting on the side lines. The MOOSE program located on the abandoned air base at Oak Grove, near Pollocksville, NC where about 80 Marine Corps Engineers, Drivers and Mechanics, and other support personnel (as well as one lucky Navy “Doc”, yours truly) maintained a substantial fleet of war ready vehicles of a wide variety.
Considered to be isolated duty because we were self sufficient and out in the boonies compared to other Military establishments, we did our jobs and built friendships that have endured these past 30 years. This is what this page is about! The Marines who served at MOOSE, Oak Grove.
